15 reasons it’s great raising a family in South West London
When I was asked by South West London estate agents Featherstone Leigh to write about why it’s great raising a family in South West London, I realised I could have written a book on this. But with so much to do with kids in this area, my only challenge is there’s not much time left in the day to write the book I would love to write. South West London with kids is pretty full on, and here are my five top reasons for why we love raising a family in South West London:
1. First-rate nurseries and schools
For parents who love the idea of their little stars starting to write at the age of three and communicate in a foreign language when travelling, the South West London pre-school scene is sure to impress. The area has a number of top nurseries and pre-schools, giving children the very best possible start to their educational journey. There are also a large number of independent prep schools, drawing families to the area.
2. Superior kids private members clubs
It’s all about family-life in South West London, with even private members clubs targeted at kids. Family clubs like Purple Dragon in Chelsea, Cupcake Club in Fulham and Maggie and Rose in Chiswick and Kensington offer a wide range of activities for families with young children, making it easy for parents to get out of the house, meet likeminded people and do something fun with the kids in an exceptionally family-friendly setting.
3. Local playgrounds
With a long list of playgrounds dotted around South West London, there’s never too far to walk to swings or slides, creating excellent opportunities for families to ensure little ones get to spend time outside and keep active. Battersea Park is a favourite with many parents, boasting a children’s zoo with an impressive playground, as well as a large playground with sections for different age groups.
4. Celebrated culture
Whether it’s award-winning theatre productions, musicals or concerts, or unique art installations and exhibitions, families living in South West London have easy access to London’s impressive cultural scene, including many events planned with kids in mind. There are even two well-known theatres dedicated to entertaining a young audience in this part of London–Polka Theatre and Lyric Hammersmith.
5. Creative indoor fun
Even on rainy days in South West London there’s more than enough to do for South West London families, with some favourite pastimes being pottery painting at welcoming Sammy Duder, cookie decorating at Biscuiteers, monthly creative kids workshops at Bluebird Restaurant, and family brunches with colour-in sets and stickers at restaurants like Tom’s Kitchen.
