02 tried and tested Chelsea kids classes
Judo Gym at The Budokwai
The other day fifteen-month-old Baby Boy fell asleep while eating a ham sandwich. It was only minutes after he’d been to a 45-minute long Judo Gym class at martial arts club The Budokwai, off Fulham Road, where he’d had the opportunity to run off steam in a padded room, sing action songs and try out an obstacle course with soft play shapes. I was so excited after the class and called Daddy T with the good news – it simply seemed like this was fantastic for Baby Boy. We had been recommended the active and fun Judo Gym classes by friends when I was pregnant with Big Girl, and now that Baby Boy is walking and not in nursery full-time I wanted to ensure he had a class where he could get moving and put all his energy to good use. Since the room is padded, he could have fun running from side to side – and even riding a parachute from side to side – without any worries about bumps and falls. A brilliant class for an energetic toddler.
Monkey Music at Cineworld Fulham Road and Coopers Arms Chelsea
Last term a friend booked Monkey Music classes two times a week for her daughter, as it was the little one’s very favourite activity and she wanted her to have a fun schedule with weekly activities she loved. Monkey Music is a Chelsea favourite, and I’ve been invited to attend Monkey Music classes, which both Big Girl and Baby Boy have loved. I’ve now been through a number of the different age levels, and I can see how the classes are fantastic for introducing young children to music. The music curriculum is designed to support baby development with specialist classes, and then in the classes for three to four-year-olds preschoolers learn to read music and are introduced to orchestral instruments. There are lots of props–different ones every week–and even babies soon come to love the catchy Monkey Music songs, which are specific to the different class levels. There are weekly classes in Chelsea, Gloucester Road, South Kensington, Belgravia and Pimlico, and there is some availability for this term.
