03 Christmas events outside London
Glow Wild at Wakehurst
At Wakehurst, the magical night-time experience Glow Wild, which we’ve been invited to review, has returned for a sixth year, and the trail will continue to get visitors in the spirit of the holiday season until 22 December. The trail sees trees, ponds and forest floors brought to life by hundreds of lanterns, fire torches and soundscapes. The garden also boasts the UK’s tallest living Christmas tree which has been decorated with 1,800 lights.
Dickensian Christmas in Rochester
On 7 and 8 December Rochester in Kent is transformed to a Dickensian village, buzzing with characters in costumes, carol singers and market stalls. There are several Dickensian Christmas parades and plenty of entertainment, including ice carving. We’ve experienced Rochester’s Dickensian Christmas several years back, and it made for a wonderful Christmas outing via train from London. See the programme online for more details, timings and a map of Rochester.
Reindeer Parade in Windsor
On Saturday 7 December, Father Christmas and his reindeer takes to the streets of Windsor. Father Christmas will be coming through the town centre on his sleigh, as part of a parade with reindeer, a marching band and costumed characters. The parade will leave the castle at 2pm, and continue through the town centre until 2.30pm. See online for details about the Windsor Yards Reindeer Parade route.
