03 lockdown treats for kids
Online puppet theatre from Little Angel Theatre
While we’re missing going to the theatre, we’ve had some wonderful online experiences. For puppet theatre, Islington’s Little Angel Theatre has continued to release online productions available to watch for free on YouTube for a limited time. The latest production, introduced on 17 January and created by Handbendi’s Greta Clough, is an adaptation of an Icelandic folk legend The Girl and the Raven, telling the story about a girl who survived a fatal landslide in Iceland in 1545. The running time is 11 minutes and the production will be available for one year from its release date. Photo credit: Handbendi/Little Angel Theatre.
DIY Biscuit Tin from Biscuiteers
For a special family occasion and those who are missing visiting the Biscuiteers icing cafes in Notting Hill and Battersea, the DIY Biscuit Tins from Biscuiteers (£35) could make for a scrumptious treat. Biscuit specialist Biscuiteers offers DIY biscuit tins with icing sugar, decorations, piping bags and a step-by-step guide, and one with heart-shaped chocolate biscuits also includes red food colouring.
Growing herbs
When passing a garden centre on a walk the other day, it reminded me that we could get some herb seeds to do planting as a fun activity with the children. Whether there’s cress, a pot of parsley or some chives, there’s plenty of choice for herbs that can easily be planted in pots and kept indoors at this time of year. It’s not only about planting, watering and watching the herbs grow, but also the enjoyment of being able to add some self-grown chives when making scrambled eggs, or sprinkling potatoes with a pinch of parsley from the windowsill.
