03 of our favourite attractions in Walt Disney World
Soarin’ Around the World in Epcot
When I came out of the Soarin’ ride I was beaming with excitement. I rode it for the first time this year, and it made me think: “Wow, this is why we’re here.” After our holiday, five-year-old Big Girl, Daddy T and myself all had Soarin’ on our list of top 3 rides in Disney World, and for me, it is the one I’m most keen to go back to do next year. Riders sit in what reminded me of a big chairlift, and our feet were dangling in the air, as we journeyed around the world. It is not a roller coaster, but the ride takes place inside in front of a huge screen. It felt like we were flying and it was not a ride that was scary for five-year-old Big Girl. In fact, we were really taken aback by how much we loved the ride, the beautiful scenery and the smells. An orca came jumping in front of us as we crossed the ocean, and when flying above Africa we could smell grass. The unexpected 30-minute FastPass queue wait time was suddenly all worth it – this ride had the wow factor.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom
As Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is known as a good introductory roller coaster I thought it would be a highlight for five-year-old Big Girl and not necessarily for me. But I was wrong. I’m still humming along to the Heigh-Ho song, and swaying as if I’m on the log train with swaying carts . We loved that this roller coaster had some fast turns and drops in addition to a slower section where we could see the seven dwarfs working away with the diamonds in the mine and singing their cheerful song. I’m not surprised it’s often the ride with the longest wait times in Magic Kingdom!
Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom
In our family, Daddy T was the one who tried the mega popular Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, but I wanted to include it on our list as I continue to hear him raving about it to friends who are planning their Disney holidays. In his view, it resembles Soarin’ Around the World, but riders sit differently as each person sits on a ‘banshee’. Since each rider sits on their own banshee and riders feel the deep drops when getting a sensation of flying on this 3D ride, we felt Big Girl could wait a year before riding it despite the fact that she met the height requirement.
