03 things to do in London with kids for LEGO fans this month
Learning through play with the LEGO team at Southbank Centre
As part of the opening weekend of the Nordic Matters Festival at Southbank Centre, the LEGO team is hosting a free learning-through play family workshop at 11.30am on Saturday 14 January. Play experts, including LEGO’s David Pallash, senior manager of child engagement, will be talking about the value of play at the event, and families can also get hands on and be creative. The event, recommended for children aged 6 and over, will take place in The Clore Ballroom on Level 2 at Royal Festival Hall. In the same room, there’s also a Cinnamon Bun workshop at 1pm on the same day with the master baker from the Finnish Church in London. This workshop is recommended for children aged 5 and over.
Meet the giant LEGO brick animals at London Wetland Centre
Dress up warm and enjoy a day outdoors in London Wetland Centre in Barnes where the giant LEGO brick animals, which arrived before Christmas, are still on display. The LEGO brick animal trail, aimed at inspiring children to build a better future for nature, is open until 28 January.
Visit the London Model Engineering Exhibition
LEGO will also be featured at the London Model Engineering Exhibition, which returns to Alexandra Palace in North London from 20 to 22 January. At the event, families can enjoy large number of model engineering displays, steam locomotives and traction engines, as well as remote control trucks, boats, planes and helicopters. There will also be a special Mail Rail exhibit at the exhibition–a preview of what’s to come when the Mail Rail and Postal Museum opens in spring. For children, the Imagineering Foundation stand is also recommended–a type of science lab where they can try out modelling experiments, or play on a huge track layout with toy trains, cars and dinosaurs.
