03 things to do in London with kids this weekend
Visit the Frida Kahlo exhibition at V&A
As there are several children’s books about inspiring women that mention Frida Kahlo, families who are reading these books may want to also visit the current Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up exhibition at London’s Victoria & Albert museum. The exhibition features a collection of personal artefacts and clothing, which we felt helped tell the story about her life and struggles. When I looked online, tickets for all weekends in September were sold out, but with a V&A membership I could visit the exhibition without pre-booking a time slot. Another highlight at the V&A was the piazza, where children can enjoy running around in the water feature on sunny days.
Take a ride at John Parnham’s Fun Fair
Every September we seem to be spending weekends at fun fairs, and I’m sure this September will be no different from previous years. John Parnham’s Fun Fair is popping up on Wimbledon Common this weekend and next weekend (8, 9, 15 and 16 September) with its Kidz World Family Fair, and from 12 to 16 September they will have their Children’s Fair at Eel Brook Common. The Children’s Fair will also be at Parson Green from 19 to 30 September.
Explore the Go! Organic Festival in Battersea Park
On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September the Go! Organic Festival, which I’ve been invited to attend, is taking place in Battersea Park and will be showcasing all things organic. The event will feature an array of children’s activities, including fun fair rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts activities and a performance by BBC presenter Andy Day appearing with his band Andy and the Odd Socks . I’ll be going to see Honest Organic, which will have a stand offering children the opportunity to make baskets, decorate rocks and pick their own fruit. There are also timed activities, including making bird feeders.
