03 tips for last minute holiday preparations
1. Upgrade mum’s holiday wardrobe
Friday 25 May is the last day of the Wiggy Kit pop-up in children’s shoe shop Papouelli on New King’s Road, and it’s a great destination for last-minute holiday shopping for mums. The brand, which was also started by a local mum, offers a collection of chic and smart resort wear with pieces that work equally well for the London school run and general city life.
2. Get practical children’s shoes
Trotters, which I’ve collaborated with, has become one of my regular spots for getting the children holiday-ready. I think the colourful Hampton canvas shoes are practical for summer for both boys and girls, and for girls I particularly like the Hampton Classic Martha (£22) in silver, as the velcro fastening makes it easy to take on and off and the silver colour goes with most outfits. Perfect when travelling light!
3. Stock up on toiletries
Whenever I pack for a longer holiday with kids, I feel I end up filling a full shopping basket in the pharmacy. I bring first aid essentials like plasters and antiseptic wipes, basic medicines like paracetamol and antihistamines, and mosquito spray and bite relief for exotic destinations. I also like travelling with sun cream, and today Garnier Ambre Solaire, which is running a Wrap, Splat, Hat awareness campaign to keep children safe in the sun, surprised me with samples. I had already bought the Kids Garnier Ambre Solaire 50+ SPF Wet Skin Lotion this season because I think it’s practical to be able to apply sun cream on wet or dry skin, and I like that this is a very water resistant sun cream. For families travelling with carry-on luggage, it’s worth noting that this kids sun cream is available in a travel size.
