3 top summer reads for baby
Baby Touch Busy Baby
The large board book Baby Touch Busy Baby, part of Ladybird’s Baby Touch series, features colourful illustrations and patches of different textures to feel on every page (£7.99 Ladybird). It tells a little story about baby’s day of exploring, ideal for a holiday, and it also comes with a Busy Baby CD with ten tracks of specially-composed instrumental baby music, which can be fun for baby on the go. I was really impressed with this book when receiving it to review, and we now have the CD on in the car. I also often bring the book along for Baby Boy to look at the images if he’s awake and we’re making a stop. The music can get to me after listening to it for a while, but Baby Boy seems to enjoy his tunes.
Usborne Baby’s Very First Slide and See Under the Sea
To introduce little ones to summer themes, such as sea life, Usborne Baby’s Very First Slide and See Under the Sea (£7.99, Usborne) makes a great first holiday read. The colourful board book features friendly sea creatures and sliding panels to amuse young readers, which is why I wanted to pack the review copy we received when we were going away this summer. The book is designed to help baby develop essential motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and the interactive features mean it can be entertaining for both baby and toddler.
Farm Tails Book
For the very youngest travellers, Jellycat’s Farm Tails Book (£12), a soft cloth book with fabric tails popping out on one side, makes a fun read. In addition to the tails in different textures, it features a button with animal sounds, and it has a velcro strap, which means it’s useful for attaching to a buggy or car seat on the go. Baby Boy received the sweet book as a gift, and it came on holiday with us–not only because we were going to the country and Baby Boy might see some of these farm animals at an open farm or on a field, but also because it was easy to pack and entertaining for baby.
