03 top tips for getting out of the house with toddler
I was expecting the worst yesterday when I had to get 28-month-old Baby Girl out the door and to nursery on time for the first time in 2015. She had gotten used to holiday mode with morning lie-ins and long breakfasts over Christmas, and I knew it would be a challenge to get her out of the house at a decent time on Monday. But I was pretty pleased with my new strategy, which proved successful:
1. Put out a pair of trousers I know she don’t want to wear, and keep the more suitable outfit to one side, so the second one would seem like a fantastic choice in comparison to the first one. No argument after she had been able to refuse option 1!
2. Have her baby doll and doll’s toothbrush at the ready to create a distraction from her toothbrushing routine by telling her she had to show baby doll how it should be done, as baby doll is so little. Open mouth and no crying!
3. Leave some holiday memorabilia by the door to avoid any final arguments about whether to leave the house or not, as we obviously have to go to nursery to show the teachers these fantastic treasures from the show we went to/the place we visited
