4 baby buys that last for years

I loved doing all the shopping to prepare for Baby Girl’s arrival, but I was pretty surprised to see how  short-lived some were as baby grew so quickly. It doesn’t mean I would have been without the things that we only used the first three months, as they were essential at the time, but when shopping for a new baby I think it’s worth bearing in mind that some baby items can be in use for years.

Here’s a list of four of the things we bought before Baby Girl was born that we still use now that she’s 25 months old:

1. Changing mat and changing mat covers
I’m thrilled we bought high quality Peter Reed changing mat covers with cute embroidery from Babylist when we had Baby Girl, as we still use these and they’re still on display.

2. Nursery furniture
The dresser and cot are still in use, and we’re not thinking about changing to the junior bed any time soon. I really like the Bloom Luxo furniture we bought for Baby Girl when she was born, and I can see us having these in her room for some time to come. We also still use the sheets for the cot bed.

3. Knitted blankets
Before Baby Girl was born we bought two cot-sized handknitted merino/cashmere blend blankets (see picture above) from Sue Hill–a company I’ve since started blogging for–and these blankets, which can be made in a variety of colour combinations, are still very much in use when we’re out and about because they are large enough. If we were to have another baby, I would buy exactly the same blankets for the new one.

4. Lambskin rugs
We bought several machine-washable natural lambskin liners/rugs before Baby Girl was born, and these have been extremely useful for keeping Baby Girl warm in the buggy during the colder months and for using inside as small play mats on wooden and stone flooring. As the temperature has dropped and we continue to regularly use a stroller, I’ll now start using the sheepskin liners again in the Maclaren buggy, which is now the only buggy we use.
