05 educational Easter holiday activities for kids in London
Friends often ask me how I hear about activities for kids in London, and my round-ups are often based on hours of online research and emails from a network of contacts I’ve built up in the last couple of years. The challenge is that there’s always so much happening for families in London, and sifting through events to choose the best ones can be difficult at times.
That’s why I was excited to hear a teacher from a local independent school has launched London’s Little Thinkers, a newsletter focusing on the educational activities happening in the city. Here are five of her top picks for educational Easter holiday activities for kids in London
1. Kensington and Chelsea Easter Holiday Project with Chickenshed
Inclusive North London theatre company Chickenshed is hosting a four-day workshop from 29 March to 1 April at the Chelsea Academy on Lots Road, offering children aged 6 to 11 a chance to explore and develop a range of performance skills. Chickenshed is also hosting a five-day holiday workshop in North London for children aged 5 to 11. Led by enthusiastic specialists these are workshops not to miss!
2. Storytelling and music sessions at The Royal Albert Hall
Enjoy engaging, specialised and interactive sessions for 0-4year olds at The Royal Albert Hall, running every Tuesday or Wednesday until 5 July. Seasoned storytellers deliver a series of sessions for babies and toddlers. They use singing, movements, stories and instruments to encourage interaction between little ones and their parents/carers. These specialised sessions focus on developing co-ordination, self confidence and awareness, using songs, sounds, rhythms and rhymes. Buy your ticket and get 20% off Verdi, Italian Kitchen. Spaces fill up fast so book tickets early to avoid disappointment.
3. Live Art at Tate Modern
From 1 to 4 April, Tate Modern is hosting PLAYING UP, a live art event for children and adults. Children can make clothes out of food, lie on top of cars, dance with animals, remote control parents and much much more in this three-day mass ‘play in’. PLAYING UP takes the form of a game played by adults and is described as “a playful, hands-on introduction to Live Art for everyone”
4. Space LEGO Stop Motion Camp with Mini-Engineers
For children aged 8-11 years old who are fascinated with space there’s a one-day Space Lego Stop Motion Camp with Mini-Engineers in St John’s Wood on 12 April and in Wimbledon on 14 April. Working in pairs each team will plan, discuss, script and animate their very own space journey using provided stop motion software. Each group will present their own space film and take it home on a Mini-Engineers personalised USB stick.
5. French holiday club with Club Petit Pierrot
Club Petit Pierrot is hosting holiday clubs for children aged 3 to 8 from 4 to 8 April in Chelsea, Notting Hill and St John’s Wood. Their unique immersion programme includes a range of creative activities including theatre, cooking, singing dancing and more, all taught in French! The programme is led by a fantastic team of enthusiastic qualified native teachers (all DBS checked), who are passionate about teaching French to children.
