05 events to book now for Christmas in London 2018
The Nutcracker
There are three performances of The Nutcracker to choose from, so if you’ve missed out on tickets for a December date at The Royal Opera House (3 December to 15 January) there is no need to despair. As a special Christmas treat, the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production of the Christmas favourite will return to the Royal Albert Hall from 28-30 December, and the English National Ballet returns to London Coliseum with its production of The Nutcracker from 13 to 30 December (Read my review from last year HERE.) When I checked there was also still availability for January performances of The Nutcracker at Royal Opera House.
The Snowman at The Peacock
This year sees the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ picture book The Snowman, and the magical show continues to be a family favourite. The Snowman, which celebrated 20 years at The Peacock last year, is based on the book by Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates. It tells the story of a boy and his snowman that comes to life, and it is playing at The Peacock from 23 November to 31 December. Read my review from last year HERE.
Lapland UK
On 17 September the remaining tickets for Lapland UK will be released, and in my view, this is the ultimate Father Christmas experience. Lapland UK is located a stone throw from London on the Windsor Estate, and as part of the Lapland UK adventure families go on a journey through a magical winterland where little ones visit the toy factory, meet elves, join in Father Christmas’s favourite sport of ice skating and get to meet Father Christmas in a charming cabin. Tickets, start from £65 per person.
Christmas at Kew
The magical after-dark experience Christmas at Kew is another London Christmas favourite, and the tickets went on sale in June. It is an evening event, which takes place after Kew Gardens close, and visitors get to go on an illuminated trail through the beautiful gardens, experiencing a light show with laser beams, singing trees, giant baubles, a flickering Fire Garden and more. Along the way, visitors can also enjoy festive food and drinks, Christmas shopping and a performance with Santa and his elves.
Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas at Lyric Hammersmith
For families with young children, I often recommend Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas at Lyric Hammersmith for a festive theatre experience, and it’s a show I’ve reviewed several years in a row. With an intimate venue, live music and sounds, and wonderful stage set-up, the show has become a Christmas favourite for families, introducing children to the magic of Father Christmas and the job he does on Christmas Eve. The show is playing at Lyric Hammersmith from 21 November to 30 December.
