25 family shows to book tickets for now
Shrek the Musical
After visiting Shrek’s Adventure to review the other day, I was reminded the likeable green ogre is also on stage at the moment. Shrek the Musical, based on the DreamWorks animation about Shrek and the talking Donkey rescuing Princess Fiona, is playing at New Wimbledon Theatre until 31 January. Threre are matinee performances on 28, 30 and 31 January.
Aladdin
Disney’s new Broadway musical Aladdin is set to hit West End in May, and since we’re regularly singing along to A Whole New World at home I would love to take Big Girl to see it. The show will be playing at Prince Edward Theatre, and tickets for performances from May to October are on sale. There will be matinee performances on Thursdays and Saturdays.
My First Ballet: Sleeping Beauty
Over Easter mini Londoners have an opportunity to see their very first ballet. English National Ballet and English National Ballet School present My First Ballet: Sleeping Beauty, a one-hour ballet telling the story of Princess Aurora created especially for children as young as three. The ballet is playing at Peacock Theatre in London from 24 March to 2 April 2016.
The Gruffalo
The stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s children’s classic The Gruffalo returns to Lyric Theatre on 6 July, and the popular show running until 4 September is ideal for young theatre-goers, who are familiar with the book and enjoys the interactive performance. I remember sitting in the audience with Big Girl last summer and together with the rest of the young audience we were roaring loudly to scare off the different animals. An entertaining morning over the school holiday!
Mary Poppins
The other evening I was Googling the distance between London and Southampton. I’m gutted Mary Poppins is touring in the UK, but not playing in London, as I would love to take Big Girl to see the show. It’s the only musical I’ve been to see on my own on Broadway, and I loved this feel-good supercalifragilistic musical. For families planning a trip out of the city, it may be worth checking out the Mary Poppins UK tour schedule.
Thanks for these, Tine!
We are also booked in to see the Nothern Ballet’s rendition of the Tortoise & the Hare, which is 40 mins. and geared towards children, similar to the English National Ballet’s, “My First Ballet” series. There is a performance in Richmond on 1 June.
