05 London Christmas family events to book now
1. Lapland UK
For the ultimate Father Christmas experience that doesn’t require flying the family for a day trip to Lapland in Finland, Lapland UK, located a stone throw from London on the Windsor Estate, is the place to go. Before the day, children receive personalised invitations to help Father Christmas in the toy factory because there have been too many good girls and boys this year, and on the day, families can enjoy a three and a half hour experience, taking them through a magical winterland where little ones meet elves, Father Christmas himself, see the toy factory, join in Father Christmas’s favourite sport of ice skating, receive a present and more. Tickets, which start from £45 excluding booking fees, are now on sale for pre-registered customers and the general ticket release is on Thursday 24 September at 10am.
2. Harrods Christmas Grotto
For London mums I’m sure attempting to secure a Harrods Christmas Grotto slot is as stressful as it is for a teenager desperate to book tickets for a 1D concert. You snooze you loose. The classic experience is free apart from a £10 booking fee put back on the reward card for reward cardholders after the meet-and-greet, but bookings fill up quickly and when I checked in mid-September it was sold out already. It is vital to book the Grotto experience as early as possible, and ideally have a reward card tier providing early access to bookings. This year, however, Harrods has introduced a Grotto Cafe experience and Tea experience, which include a meal package and costs from £25 per child, and these tickets were available when I last checked and this is what I’ve ended up booking myself.
3. Peppa Pig’s Surprise at Duke of York’s Theatre
There’s a new Peppa Pig show on West End this year, now for the first time with life-sized puppets, which I think will be amazing. The new show, Peppa Pig’s Surprise, will be playing at Duke of York’s Theatre over Christmas from 18 December to 17 January. Tickets for the London dates are now on sale.
4. Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas at Lyric Hammersmith
The fun and sweet stage adaptation of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas at Lyric Hammersmith has been my favourite Christmas event in the past couple of years, and although I’ve been to see it four times already I can’t wait to return this year to get us all in the spirit of Christmas again. Tickets for the popular show, aimed at children under 6, went on sale in April, and it’s best to plan ahead, particularly for weekend performances in December.
5. Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment
Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment at The O2 from 22 December-3 January, and tickets for the fast-paced show went on sale in April. This year, Frozen is included, and little fans dressed in princess costumes are bound to flock to the huge arena.
