05 top tips for visiting LaplandUK
1. Arrive on time
When arriving at LaplandUK in Berkshire, near Ascot, which we had been invited to visit to review, I was surprised to see the huge car park, and we ended up taking a bit longer than expected to get from the car to the check-in area, so our tour had already started by the time we got there. We could have arrived a bit earlier, as the large check-in area looked like a lovely place to hang out before joining the tour
2. Get your Elf Jingles from the Post Office
I hadn’t pre-booked Elf Jingles, the currency used in the Elf Village in LaplandUK, and I was worried there would be long queues to exchange money. There were no queues, however, in the Post Office in the Elf Village, and by that point I knew how much we needed to exchange. In the sweet shop and in the Elf Emporium shop in the Elf Village, they accepted cards too, so I only paid with Elf Jingles in the cafe
3. Be prepared to buy a reindeer
In the Toy Factory on the tour, children make a cuddly reindeer toy, and when writing a letter to Father Christmas in the Elf Village later, Big Girl had ‘Reindeer Toy’ at the top of her Christmas wish list. I didn’t feel she needed more soft toys, so I hadn’t pre-ordered this when booking the tickets. When I noticed it was for sale for £25 in the Elf Emporium, however, I made Daddy T go buy it without Big Girl noticing, and she will now get it from Father Christmas on Christmas Day
4. Don’t skimp on husky clothes
After visiting LaplandUK, I’ve been calling around to friends to check who’s going to LaplandUK in the next week, as I’m in desperate need of husky clothes and accessories. When visiting Father Christmas he gives the children a husky soft toy, and upon exiting LaplandUK it’s possible to buy clothes and accessories for this husky. I tried to whisk Big Girl through this area, while Daddy T paid for a husky coat without her noticing. We then gave her the coat in her advent calendar, but it has resulted in husky clothes suddenly being in the top three on her Christmas wish list. I’ve not found them online, and I just wish we’d bought more on the day – or that LaplandUK could open an e-shop!
5. Remember to truly enjoy the best Christmas family day out!
Layer up and ensure every family member can fully enjoy the whole experience by being dressed for a day outside–although it’s warm in the Toy Factory and Mother Christmas’s kitchen. It might seem like you’re in a big group when the tour first starts, but by the time you walk with your own elf through a tree maze to find Father Christmas’s cozy cottage, I think it’s impossible not to leave feeling it’s been an amazing and magical day out for the whole family. A Christmas memory to treasure
