2A diet for a new mum
I’m worried Baby Girl is drinking chocolate milk at the moment. She’s fully breastfed, and I’m far from following Daddy T’s January weekday diet. Instead, I’m indulging – indulging in chocolate.
When I’m out pushing the buggy during the day, I end up getting so cold that I practically can’t survive without a hot chocolate. I’m the only one in the family who hasn’t had a cold though, so I’m now convinced my choice of hot drink helps get me through the winter.
But it’s not enough with the one treat. In the evening, I have a different problem. I’m exhausted after the two-hour evening play, bath and feeding session. There’s too long until dinner will be ready, and I don’t have time to prepare a quick snack.
It always seems to make a lot more sense to spend the time cleaning toys, organising the changing bag, sterilising dummies and doing Baby Girl’s laundry. And while I’m doing all this, I eat my milk chocolate.
I just hope it won’t mean we’ll have to add Nesquik to Baby Girl’s milk when she starts drinking from a sippy cup. This was certainly not mentioned as an option on the Starting Solids course I did.
Good for you for breastfeeding! I don’t think Baby Girl is going to be addicted to chocolate cause you ate it. Has she shown any food sensitivities so far? Perhaps prepare some trail mix ahead of time so that you can just grab the bag? It’s better for you, certainly. Can’t go without the chocolate, try putting some m&m’s in there. It gives you the chocolate taste, but you get the good fats, etc from the nuts.
Just a thought.
Thank you, Lisa! I’ve not noticed any particular food sensitivities, but it’s quite difficult to say since she has reflux and often cries a lot. However, I’ve tried avoiding citrus fruits. In the early days, I had one small glass of orange juice every day in the morning, and no other citrus fruits during the day, but I’ve since been advised to stop that too, so for the past two months I’ve not had any citrus fruits. In addition, I try to choose decaf options when possible. I obviously have caffeine in chocolate, but I usually order decaf coffees and we buy caffeine free diet coke. Do you have any experience with food sensitivities in babies?
