0When baby has his first tastes of solids
The other day I started worrying. It’s not that anything bad has happened. It’s simply that weaning is not my favourite pastime activity, and I suddenly remembered how slow the process can be.
Some babies seem to finish a meal in minutes. Others don’t. And mine appear to fit in this latter group.
I might be a bit harsh on six-month-old Baby Boy, as he’s only having his first tastes on the new Beaba My First Spoon, which he’s received to review, but I’ve realised (again) that weaning does require a bit of patience.
The equipment, however, is top notch. The soft Beaba first-stage silicone spoon, which is the chicest first weaning spoon I’ve seen, is easy to hold for me with a chunky grip designed for adults, and the spoon size and shape seems to fit Baby Boy’s mouth.
The first time we tried the colourful French-designed spoon he even opened his mouth when I came with the spoon, but he now seems to have understood that this is something that happens regularly, and I now have to make him smile or laugh to trick him into opening his mouth. I then quickly give him a spoonful and scoop up whatever comes out.
I’m still a bit unsure if I’m making too much fuss about him eating enough spoonfuls at this early stage, and I think it’s difficult to know when to stop trying to make him eat a portion of baby rice or fruit or vegetable pure.
There doesn’t seem to be an exact formula for how to get this right, with every baby being different, but there are some essentials that it’s hard to do without when starting solids, and one of those is a functional early stage baby spoon with a long handle and small spoon bowl like the Beaba spoon.
Baby Boy is at least eating more and more and looking happier by the day, so he no longer needs reflux medication, which does of course beat any time constraints I may have.
Go Baby Boy!
