Baby’s view on fruit-flavoured antibiotics

Teddy bear and stethoscope.I keep hearing that feeding could get a lot more difficult when baby starts talking. But my six-month old already knows how to say no. She just vomits.

That’s what she did when she tasted apple puree for the first time on Friday, it was what she did when she was first served mashed banana, and it was what she did when she was given antibiotics with banana taste. In fact, she vomited five times after I’d given her a quarter of a daily dose of the liquid antibiotics she had been prescribed to treat an ear infection.

She disliked banana so much that she even got to see her favourite paediatrician Dr Kingi Aminu on a Saturday. We had the option to swap to strawberry-flavoured antibiotics, but I eventually decided to stick to the one she’d started on.

I felt I managed to disguise the banana taste by mixing the antibiotics with baby rice. Even Baby Girl couldn’t say no to that.
