0Baking with baby
Baby Girl is already proving to be a good cook. She came home with a delicious upside-down pineapple cake last week. It was so good that I decided to make it myself when I had friends over on Wednesday.
But it’s hard to compete with Baby Girl. She makes baking look so easy. With help from the play buddies at family club Purple Dragon, she mixes ingredients together and makes everything from shortbread with her little handprint to heart cookies with red ribbon.
My little one makes it look like even I can bake. That’s why I embarked on the pineapple cake project. I had ten minutes to spare while Baby Girl was on her mat in front of me, and I figured I could do it in that time, as Baby Girl had finished hers even quicker.
The problem is that I keep forgetting that Baby Girl is clearly exceptional at everything she does. My version of the cake had no similarities to hers. My one was like a hard sponge. The pineapples had come off and didn’t stick to the rest of the cake like they were supposed to.
The whole thing was a complete disaster. It’s the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever served friends. Next time, I clearly need my budding baker to do more than supervising from a mat.
