2The best alternative to a sandpit
When Daddy T came home from work yesterday, I had to warn him about the state of Baby Girl’s room. I told him he would probably feel much more relaxed if he could stay downstairs and avoid her room altogether.
The problem was that we had pasta shapes all over the floor in her room and the bathroom.
But it was all for a very good reason. I started thinking about buying her a sandpit earlier in the week, but decided not to after failing to find the one we wanted in nearby shops.
To make use of her bucket and spade without going to the playground, I figured we could try scooping up something else and remembered seeing pasta being used in nurseries.
And it turns out Baby Girl loves playing with pasta as much as she loves sand. She played for more than an hour with the pasta I poured into a tray in her room. She organised it with her spade and bucket, and she filled little cups with pasta and served it up to Minnie Mouse, teddy and dolly.
The only challenge was that she eventually decided it was time to throw it around the room and run into the bathroom with her hands full of pasta, dropping it on the floor to hear the sound of dry pasta shapes falling on the tiles.
Great fun!
For young children another alternative to pasta would be something very small and edible, such as the cereal they eat.
I think I’d take the mess for the hour of satisfied small child. Sounds like fun!
I agree! We played with the pasta again this morning, and it was just as popular today. And she’s very good at keeping the pasta in the tray in the beginning at least
