1Best car accessories for families with young children
Before I had Baby Girl I couldn’t quite understand why I kept seeing estate cars with ‘Baby on Board’ signs and unattractive sunshades attached to the back seat windows. But life changes.
When we’re on holiday in France, Grandpa P has ensured we have a ‘Bébé à bord!’ sign on the car, and here in London, we fit in with other local families, driving around in an estate with sunshades.
All for Baby Girl.
And since this week is Child Safety Week, I’ve asked Child Passenger Safety Technician and Diono Global Safety Advocate Allana Pinkerton for more advice on travel accessories for keeping children safe on the roads.
Q: When preparing for a new arrival, what more than the actual car seat should parents consider buying to keep their infants safe while travelling by car?
A: Additional to the car seat (this is the most important bit) would be a mirror to see your baby when rear facing. Taking your eyes off the road is very tempting–especially at traffic lights and if your baby is making a noise–but it’s the most dangerous thing to do!
Having a mirror like the Diono Easy View fixed in the back and aligned so that a quick glance in the car’s rear view mirror gives a clear line of sight is an ideal solution. It also keeps mum from twisting her body in the vehicle which can cause a kink in the back or neck.
Q: What is the most popular travel accessory for promoting child safety in the car?
A: Things that help tidy everything away are vital. Items on the parcel shelf or loose in the car can become missiles in an accident as moving objects carry up to 6 times their normal weight in a collision! Parents can keep things organised with a back seat organiser like the Diono Stow ‘n Go.
Love the Diono Stow’n Go. I hate having things on the floor below the seat. This keeps it out of the way. I think I might buy it 🙂
