0Best London museums for babies and toddlers (Part 1)
National Army Museum
The Kids’ Zone in the basement of National Army Museum in Chelsea is a large forest and arctic-themed soft-play area for under 8s. This is a fun place to go with babies from when they are crawling, or toddlers who can toddle or run around. You can buy tickets online for a time slot and it costs £2.50 per child over 6 months. National Army Museum is also a popular venue for birthday parties, and one of Baby Girl’s friends had her first birthday here last year. The children then played in the basement for an hour before having sandwiches and fruit in the cafeteria on the ground floor.
Science Museum
The Garden, a room in the basement of the Science Museum (see picture above), has been designed to encourage children aged 3 to 6 to learn about science through play. It includes a water play area and building blocks, and there are fun sections where children can learn about texture, sound, light and shadows. Seventeen-month old Baby Girl loved it here when we went with friends this week, and the only challenge was to drag her away from the water play area after her hands got cold. Although it is aimed at over 3s, I felt it was perfect for me to start taking Baby Girl here now, and she would probably have enjoyed it earlier too. Entry is free.
