1Breastfeeding in different time zones
Jetlag for Baby Girl was no problem. Jetlag for me – or more specifically my breasts – was a big problem. I soon realised changing time zones was not ideal for a breastfeeding mum.
The first night was awful. I was lying in bed waiting for Baby Girl to wake up hungry. She is usually very hungry in the morning, so my breasts were getting more and more engorged when it was morning in the UK.
At six Tampa time, I decided I couldn’t wait any longer. It was starting to get painful, and I was very worried about getting mastitis again.
Baby Girl didn’t seem to share my concerns though. She was fast asleep. She was perfectly happy after having had a dreamfeed close to midnight, and she didn’t seem to worry about the risk of having a mum with mastitis on holiday.
When she woke up a few times in the early hours of the morning she wasn’t even hungry, just confused about the time. But not as confused as my breasts. I ended up having to hand express over the sink in the hotel bathroom.
And when I had just about emptied them completely, I could hear Baby Girl. She wanted her breakfast after all.
Oh how confusing!
I would love for you to link up this at the Friday Baby Shower linky party. We’ve got an extra link up this week specifically for breastfeeding posts.
