When building Lego becomes the ultimate family weekend activity

Adventure Camp Tree House Lego FriendsDaddy T should not be left alone in Westfield. He loves The Lego Store too much.

The other week I looked away for what felt like two minutes, as I was with Big Girl and Baby Boy, and in that time he’d managed to fall in love with just about everything in The Lego Store.

We’re trying to be conscious about not spoiling the children all the time, but when Daddy T hits The Lego Store he forgets all about his plan to limit toy shopping outside birthdays and Christmas.

And he sort of has a good reason to go a bit crazy when it comes to Lego.

It’s not the loyalty card that’s the big draw – although it’s fun to get an extra reward – but it’s the fact that building Lego Friends sets has become Big Girl’s favourite thing to do with Daddy T on weekends.

As soon as we have time at home on a weekend, she will ask Daddy T if they can build Lego together, and she sits patiently by the kitchen table, waiting for instructions on how she can help build the project of the day.

They build sets that are recommended for much older children partly because Daddy T is a huge Lego fan, but he manages to find small projects for Big Girl to get involved. She does all the characters, and assembles different parts here and there.

After finishing the Lego Friends Treehouse and Pop Star Mansion, for example, she’s played with the houses and group members for weeks–not to mention started wearing skirts just like Livi!

Quality play for quality time!
