Where to celebrate Tove Jansson anniversary

If you’re not planning a trip to Finland to see a Moomin concert to celebrate the renowned Finnish author behind the Moomin books Tove Jansson’s 100th year anniversary, I’ve scooped out some events that might be a little bit easier to attend for London families wanting to take part in the celebrations happening around the world this summer

Moomin Madness at Polka Theatre
Earlier this summer, The Summer Book by Tove Jansson was on at the Unicorn Theatre, and now Polka Theatre is the place to go for Tove Jansson celebrations. Polka Theatre is showing Moomin Madness with puppets and live music until 16 August. Moomin Madness– a fun performance suitable for children aged 4+ – is based on Tove Jansson’s book Moominsummer Madness from 1954.

Moomin Madness Birthday Party in Covent Garden
After seeing the show at Polka Theatre, you can continue the celebrations at a family day out on Saturday 9 and Sunday10 August in Covent Garden. There will be a Moomin Madness Birthday Party at Covent Garden Market with fun activities for children on both days.

Tove Jansson exhibition at Institute of Contemporary Arts
Older fans might want to visit the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) near Trafalgar Square, where there is also an event to coincide with Tove Jansson’s 100th year anniversary. Next week sees the opening of Tove Jansson: Tales from the Nordic Archipelago at ICA, which will include original unseen photographs and material relating to her life and books.
