0Celebrating 15 years of The Gruffalo on stage
On Wednesday I had my picture taken with a real celebrity. At least in the eyes of three-year-old Big Girl who was truly impressed when I showed her the photo afterwards.
While she had been in nursery, I had met The Gruffalo at Lyric Theatre. Baby Boy and I had gone to the West End theatre to celebrate 15 years of The Gruffalo on stage and watch a short performance by Tall Stories, the producers of the show based on the popular Julia Donaldson book.
When Baby Boy heard The Gruffalo had been seen by over a million people and performed on five continents in top venues like the Sydney Opera House and at renowned festivals like Edinburgh Fringe, he clapped enthusiastically. So enthusiastically that I was almost hiding behind him in the otherwise silent room.
He was clearly excited to be in the theatre, and by the time the much-loved furry monster The Gruffalo himself hit the stage Baby Boy was no longer sitting in my lap. He was standing on my tummy and using me as a trampoline from start to finish. It was too cute to complain, and seeing him made me start thinking about going to see the charming stage adaptation of the children’s classic again in summer.
Happy Birthday to The Gruffalo on stage!
The Gruffalo returns to Lyric Theatre on West End for an extended run starting on 6 July and now continuing until 8 January 2017. Standard tickets start from £14.50
