Celebrating High School Musical 10th Anniversary with DisneyLife

‘Mummy, can you put me on a basketball team?’

On Tuesday I felt I had a taster of what it’s like to have a tween or teen daughter in London. Four-year-old Big Girl and I went out at nighttime–at least that’s what she calls leaving the house at 5.45pm–to celebrate the 10th anniversary of High School Musical with DisneyLife, the digital offering from Disney, combining Disney movies, mini movies, music, kids TV shows and books in one app..

I knew Big Girl was a bit young to watch High School Musical, but I figured she would enjoy the singing and the fact that the story is set around a school now that she’s started school herself.

I was right, and the two of us ended up having the best girly evening ever. We were lying on one of the beds nearest the screen at Electric Cinema Portobello, eating popcorns, singing into an inflatable microphone and whispering about who liked who in the film.

I thought Big Girl would want to sing or dance after watching the film and seeing the cheerleaders dancing around us at the special screening at Electric, but instead she asked about basketball in the car on the way home. I tried telling her that basketball was more for slightly older kids, but she’s having none of it. After a fabulous evening celebrating High School Musical she’s expecting me to find a London basketball team for four year olds–and to get to watch the two other High School Musical films at home.

I wouldn’t mind the latter though. High School Musical turned out to be a sweet film with catchy songs that’s fun to watch for mums who might have missed the HSM era when growing up!
