0Baking cheese scones with Applewood
With one child I used to bake almost every day. With two it’s become a pretty rare occasion.
To ensure 15-month-old Baby Boy has actually seen a baking bowl as well, I was delighted to accept a challenge from smoked cheddar cheese brand Applewood to add Applewood to a recipe. We received some fun baking gadgets and cheese to get us started, and Baby Boy was ready to get involved by using plastic shape cutters.
I decided to keep it easy and try a basic scones recipe and add Applewood. I cut out little chunks of Applewood cheese, and added them in the scones recipe ater mixing flour, butter, milk, baking powder and a tiny bit of salt.
Baby Boy then helped make them into lovely little shapes, having great fun in the process.
Our baking afternoon was fast-paced, and it seemed like we had made a pile of cheese scones in no time.
And I was surprised at how well-received smoky cheese scones were. Baby Boy and Big Girl loved the cheese scones as snack, and I kept them in the freezer and defrosted them several afternoons for school pick-ups.
The Applewood cheese scones are now greatly missed. A filling and tasteful family-friendly snack is always welcome!
