Making a child-friendly chocolate smoothie

‘Wow!’

Baby Girl stared at her glass, looking pretty impressed.

I don’t think she could quite believe she had been served a really yummy treat at home an afternoon after a sports class.

She had done well and seemed to need a pick-me up, so I had decided we should make something special together.I had also promised her that we would make chocolate smoothies one day as we’d received a sample of a newly-launched Lactofree Chocolate Milk since Mummy in the City is a brand ambassador for the Lactofree series of dairy products free from lactose.

Baby Girl had been excited about this plan from as soon as she’d heard chocolate and smoothie in the same sentence. It didn’t really matter that she hadn’t tasted a chocolate smoothie before. She seemed to know this was something she would like.

And I was not surprised she liked the outcome. She had helped me pour chocolate milk into the Nutri Ninja blender we had received in a pack a few months earlier, and I had added vanilla ice cream and a few pieces of milk chocolate (the extras we added on this occasion were not lactose free).

Within seconds, we had a delicious smoothie. I finished my glass immediately, but Baby Girl decided to be more experimental. She figured she could try it with fruit too – dipping pear into the drink.

I have a feeling bananas would have been a better choice, however, and I’d like to try adding bananas next time. I also plan to try making ice cream with the milk, which doesn’t taste as sweet as some other chocolate-flavoured milks I’ve tried, so I was impressed with the taste.

I think anything we make with this milk will end up being a hit with children with a sweet tooth, and our smoothies were quick and easy to make as a treat for a special summer celebration!
