Choosing a carrycot mattress

Even before Baby Girl’s arrival she started impressing Daddy T. She had been lying in her fluid-filled sac for 34 weeks when she sold her first items on Ebay.

Baby Girl auctioned off two of her belongings – the mattress that came with her brand new Bugaboo Cameleon, and the bumper that came with her cot bed.

The bumper was an obvious one to sell. Overheating and lack of airflow did not sound like risks worth taking to have something pretty to look at.

It was also hard to resist selling the Bugaboo mattress despite Uncle F claiming it was like buying a Rolls-Royce and still not being satisfied with the accessories.

The problem was that Baby Girl’s cot bed, moses basket and travel cot mattresses are made of natural fibres, and all her bed linen is organic. When I heard it was possible to buy a customised coconut mattress for her Bugaboo, it was too tempting to resist replacing the one that came with the buggy.

The Bugaboo mattress was sold for £25 on Ebay, and Baby Girl could have her customised one from Baby Mattresses Online. The chosen carrycot mattress is filled with coconut and wool fibres and has a bamboo cover.

If she develops any allergies after all these natural-fibre investments, there must be something wrong with the baby-focused eco marketing campaigns that I’ve been – just a tad – impacted by.
