5 things to consider when buying a buggy for London life

The other week I was asked for buggy advice twice within hours. I was out and about with Baby Boy in tow and we seemed to attract buggy buyers.

For soon-to-be parents looking for a new buggy, here are my top tips for what to consider when choosing a buggy for city life:

Weight
A heavy buggy can be tough to not only push around London but a nightmare at tube stations and a struggle to get in and out of taxis and buses. At tube stations such as Kensington Olympia I have to ask someone to help me carry the buggy to get from the exhibition venue side to the other side, which would have been horrible with a really heavy buggy

Steering
For normal London life a buggy that’s easy to steer is key, so it’s worth test-driving buggies and looking for swivel wheels and suspension. I seldom use the buggy on rough terrain in London, so I’ve never missed having a buggy like Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle, which we have in Norway and is brilliant for our use there

Basket
One of the things I love about the Stokke Scoot I received to review last year is the easy access to a sizeable shopping basket, which means I don’t overload the handle with bags. It also saves me from carrying heavy bags, and it’s convenient for quickly finding bits and bobs for baby that I put under the buggy

Folding
A buggy that folds in one–another feature I like about Stokke Scoot–is practical for parents who plan on taking the buggy in and out of the car, or for those who need to fold the buggy for storage at home. It’s also useful for parents who plan to take the bus regularly, as it will then be easier to fold the buggy and hold baby in the event there are already two buggies in the buggy space and there’s no time to wait for the next bus to arrive

Customer service
For mums planning a busy London lifestyle, it could be a nightmare to be without a buggy at times, and it’s always been important to me to choose a quality buggy from a trusted brand. We also decided to buy our first buggy from Harrods, as friends recommended Harrods for its after-care and customer service–something I figured would have been a lifesaver in the event of a buggy breakdown
