0Coping with mastitis
I’m back to working my way through the list of breastfeeding complications. There was one box I hadn’t ticked off yet. I hadn’t had mastitis.
But now my breastfeeding experience must be pretty all-encompassing. I suddenly came down with fever on Sunday evening. Over night, my temperature reached 38.4 and my body was aching.
I didn’t have any pain when breastfeeding, and I couldn’t see any red patches on my breasts myself. Instead, I was worried I had flu, and started getting annoyed with myself for not having taken the flu jab advertised in the GP clinic.
Baby Girl was not happy either. She’s not a stay-at-home baby, and didn’t seem to understand why we didn’t have any fun activities on the program. It wasn’t before we made it to the GP that we both cheered up.
I was happy because the GP found red patches on my breast, diagnosed me with mastitis and prescribed antibiotics. Baby Girl was happy because the GP smiled at her, entertained her while I ran to the loo, and had an interesting face to look at.
