0Creating bespoke jewellery with W&W Jewellery
On a Thursday morning before Easter I found myself searching through nature photography online. I was on the hunt for images that reminded me of my childhood and could give me inspiration for sketching a piece of jewellery.
This is very far from what I would do on a typical Thursday morning, and the only other time I remember drawing something recently was when I had to attempt to make a black and white drawing of Moana for Big Girl to colour in.
My pre-Easter sketching work, however, was in a much more relaxed setting. I had been invited to a press Jewellery Design Workshop for Mums at Battersea’s chic W&W Jewellery, which specialises in bespoke jewellery pieces. The event was held in W&W’s light and welcoming Webb’s Road studio, and while sipping on a cup of tea, I was learning about how jewellery designers may find inspiration in everyday items, pretty patterns or nature that could translate into stunning jewellery designs.
We first tried sketching some of the beautifully-crafted W&W rings, necklaces and earrings and then had a go at designing our own pieces from scratch by testing our sketching skills. I found a picture of a reindeer online, and the shape of the antlers became the inspiration for my drawing of a necklace, ring and headpiece.
With the help of rulers, stencils and pencils, we produced our own sketches, and looking back, it was a relaxing morning that reminded me of the vast opportunities for creating truly personalised and unique pieces. W&W Jewellery helps customers transform ideas–and sketches like the ones I started on–into gorgeous pieces of jewellery. The designers can interpret customers’ inspirations into a design that reflects them.
The two brothers who founded W&W also have a family background from the industry, and the team members were not only welcoming and service-minded but also seemed to have exquisite taste. When I next hear about a friend looking to order a special piece of jewellery in South West London, I can’t wait to suggest making a stop at W&W Jewellery and have a chat about the opportunities they offer for creating something unique and personal.
Thank you for having me in your chic Webb’s Road studio for the sketching class, W&W Jewellery!
