Review: Big Game Hunter’s croquet set for quality garden play to last

Big Game Hunters Croquet‘I like being on holiday where it’s nice and warm all the time’

Big Girl wasn’t happy about the lack of good weather last week and less time outside, but with up to 34 degrees in London this week we’re back outdoors.

We’ve been testing the paddling pool at a friend’s house, played with dolls outside, and even tried our croquet skills.

We received a top quality four-player croquet set to review from Big Game Hunter’s (£89.99), and in my view, croquet is fantastic for bringing the family together for an outdoor activity, or for entertaining when there are a group of children of different ages visiting.

I remember playing croquet as a child–and on the beautiful croquet lawn at Chewton Glen when Daddy T and I went for a weekend break–and it’s something I love having at home to make it part of our children’s summer memories too.

We’ve had a basic set in the past, and the Big Game Hunter’s set is a fantastic upgrade and would even make a fun present for a dad. It is equally good for older children and grown-ups, featuring hardwood mallets, white-painted heavy duty steel hoops, a canvas carry bag and more. All the pieces look durable and long-lasting, and the full-size mallets, which look huge when Big Girl plays with them now, will be brilliant even for a family with teenagers.

Our old set didn’t have a carry bag like the Big Game Hunter’s set, so it wasn’t possible to take it to the park, which I’ve now realised is essential in London.

Big Game Hunter'sWe have artificial grass and tiles underneath in the garden, so the steel hoops from the Big Game Hunter’s set are difficult to fit in the ground at home. We’ve still practised hitting croquet balls with the large mallets in the garden, and when I have an hour alone with Big Girl, we’ll be taking the croquet set with us to the park in the practical carry bag.

I can also see us bringing the croquet set when we next organise a picnic with friends, and we can bring it in the car when we go for a weekend in the country.

Croquet makes for a wonderful family activity, and with a quality set it is not only the tradition but also the equipment that can be passed on to the next generation.
