0A day out at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo
‘You know, mummy, koalas are actually monkeys?’
Sometimes I feel I have to Google the facts Big Girl bombards me with. She keeps surprising me, and although some things sound, unlikely there are times I need a quick look on Wikipedia to join the discussion.
When we were walking into Battersea Park Children’s Zoo the other day and spotted the cute kangaroo near the entrance, she started talking about Australia and koala bears.
We found some monkeys that lived in trees like koalas, and after I’d managed to confirm it on my phone, I realised this may be the link she was referring to.
I feel grateful for living in a city with several zoos, which gives children a unique opportunity to learn about and meet different animals, and last Tuesday I’m not surprised Battersea Park Children’s Zoo seemed like the place to be for little Londoners.
The sun was shining and the park was buzzing with young children, enjoying both seeing the animals and running around on the playground, which was refurbished last spring.
When we go in the afternoon I always try to make it to the 3.30pm pig feeding session, which is a family favourite, but this time we got distracted by the fun emus.
The large emus were popular with three-year-old Big Girl even the first time we took her to the zoo before she turned 1, and I could see nine-month-old Baby Boy enjoying his visit too and was eager to follow big sister into the large sand play area.
Next time!
