0Deciding not to return to work after maternity leave
Today is officially my last day at work. I’m nowhere near the office though. I’m more than 700 miles away, and I’ve only been to the office five times in the past 365 days.
This is what it’s like not returning to work after maternity leave. It’s no big deal that a leaving lunch is a week late, and there’s no desk to pack up. I’m all set for life as a freelance journalist.
It was difficult to resign after more than eight years with the same company, particularly since it was a company I loved working for. But considering London commuting times, the cost of childcare, a husband who works long hours, and no family around, it made sense for me to try going freelance to be there for Baby Girl when she’s not at nursery and to have a more flexible lifestyle.
It’s all about Baby Girl.
