0Decorating pottery at Sammy Duder for half-term
On Friday Big Girl and I kicked off half-term with a pottery painting session at Sammy Duder in Battersea, the welcoming pottery studio I’ve collaborated with in the past years. Big Girl was ready to do something different and be creative and I was ready to simply sit down and relax.
Upon arrival we were greeted by one of the new owners of Sammy Duder. Local sisters Sarah and Maddie have this month taken the reins at the pottery studio on Webbs Road, which was originally started by Battersea mum Sammy 10 years ago.
I was thrilled to hear the sisters plan on continuing the writing service at Sammy Duder, and they’ve even been taught how to write in the same style, which will be much appreciated by loyal customers who keep returning for footprints and decorations with the names of the children or years neatly written on the pieces.
Big Girl was ready to create something new for her room when we arrived on Friday, and was excited to be offered the opportunity to paint a pig for the review. There were tortoises, frogs and pigs to choose from, and I could see these small decorations being popular for a half-term painting activity.
There is a wide selection of paint colours and sponges to use, and children can have fun trying out new techniques with the support of friendly Sammy Duder staff. One of the girls kindly helped Big Girl remove a rainbow star that ended up running down the pig’s back, and they kept coming over and giving Big Girl lots of encouragement.
We left Sammy Duder feeling very pleased with the painting of the colourful and spotty pig. A cute memory from half term 2017!
Sammy Duder pottery studio offers a variety of pottery to paint, and the animal decorates are £12 each. In addition, there’s a studio fee charged per painter.
