0Eric Carle releases surreal children’s book The Nonsense Show today
Children’s entertainers who pretend to struggle to hold their balance walking across a parachute seem to have a weird ability to make children laugh and giggle. It’s the type of thing that seems to be hilarious to young partygoers, and when I read Eric Carle’s new book The Nonsense Show it reminded me of great ways like these to make children smile.
The Hungry Caterpillar author’s new book, published today and ideal for children aged two to five, starts with a fish in a bird cage and a bird in a fish bowl. It’s all a bit bizarre and silly to three-year-old Baby Girl, who giggles when I read her the review copy we received. Every page of The Nonsense Show (Puffin Books, £12.99) is filled with new surreal things, sparking our imagination and putting a smile on our faces.
I think the quirky text and colourful illustrations are good for reminding parents not to take life too seriously, and for children it’s good for encouraging creativity. It might be complete nonsense, but it’s also a fun and unique book for the whole family to enjoy.
