A Cotswolds family day out at Birdland Park and Gardens

Penguin Birdland Park and Gardens Cotswolds‘I did see duckies in the water!’

It seemed like we almost didn’t need to enter Birdland Park and Gardens for Baby Girl to have had a good day out. She was super excited about the ducks swimming in the river by the gate, and appeared to think this was the Birdland experience she had been promised.

But the sun was shining and it was the perfect day to be outside and visit Birdland Park & Gardens in the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water. At Birdland, we had the chance to see the beautiful scenery, as the park is situated in a pretty setting with the river running through, and we had the added bonus of informative and fun talks and exciting animal encounters for Baby Girl.

Pelicans Birdland Park and Gardens CotswoldsWe started with a 15-minute stop at the penguin display, where there was a mini-feed and a cute and fluffy baby penguin strutting around. Baby Girl was giggling loudly when the daddy penguin made ‘a funny noise’ and loved seeing the little penguins ‘diving just like me’.

The other highlights included seeing pink flamingos–resulting in flamingos now being her ‘favourite birdies’– stroking a tortoise, and seeing newly hatched chicks in the hatchery. There are many picnic tables around the park, and parts of the park are particularly beautiful because of the shallow river running through Bourton-on-the-Water.

There’s also a playground, which was ideal for young children, and I liked the fact that the keepers were incredibly helpful and easy to spot around the park.

An excellent choice for a family day out in the sun in pretty Cotswolds!
