Finding fun half-term activities for children in London

Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play at Southbank Centre
As part of the Imagine Children’s Festival at Southbank Centre this half-term, Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play is back on stage. The adaptation of the BBC show has received excellent reviews in the past, and it seems like the show to book for little ones aged 3 and over this half-term. There are several performances every day from Monday 16 to Friday 20 February.

Peppa Pig: The Golden Boots in cinemas
From Saturday 14 February it’s time to take the little ones to a nearby cinema, as the new Peppa Pig The Golden Boots is screening over half-term. The Golden Boots is a 15-minute special episode, and the cinema experience also includes 5 popular Peppa Pig episodes. Exciting for young Peppa fans! Peppa Pig The Golden Boots will be showing at Odeon in Kensington and Covent Garden and Cineworld in Wandsworth, for example.

Pancake Day at Bluebird
The Food Store at Bluebird in Chelsea is hosting a Pancake Filling Feast on Pancake Day Tuesday 17 February from 4-5.30pm, which I think sounds like a fun family activity. Participants get to stuff pancakes with yummy fillings and toppings, and the pancakes can then be eaten in the Food Store or taken home. The event costs £10 for 2 pancakes.

Britains Best Recruiting SergeantBritain’s Best Recruiting Sergeant
at Unicorn Theatre
For over 8s, Unicorn Theatre has the new production Britain’s Best Recruiting Sergeant starting on 13 February. Follow the story of little Tilley, who becomes Vesta Tilley–Britain’s Best Recruiting Sergeant (see picture); a shining star of the music hall whose much-loved act as a male impersonator makes her world-famous.
READER OFFER: To save 40% on tickets for the show over half-term, use promo code TILLEY when booking online, by phone or in person. The offer is valid for performances from 14 – 22 Feb (excluding 17 Feb at 7pm), and it is subject to availability.

Bird-feeder making at Battersea Park Zoo
The RSPB is visiting Battersea Park Zoo on Tuesday 17 February, and visitors can join drop-in sessions at 11am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm to make a bird feeder to take home and help feed the birds over winter. The sessions cost £1 per person, and usual entrance fees apply.

Marasil Half-Term Fashion Show at Westfield London
Childrenswear brand Marasil, which has clothes in sizes 0-12 years, is hosting a mini-fashion show in their Westfield London store on Wednesday 18 February from 12-3pm. During the event, customers can pick an outfit of choice and the brand’s photographer will be taking pictures in-store, which will be uploaded onto Marasil’s Instagram and Facebook pages. The contestant with the most likes will win their chosen outfit, and the second and third best pictures will get a chance to buy their outfits for 50% and 30% off. To secure a place at the event, email event@marasil.co.uk and start following Marasil on Instagram and Facebook.

London Lego exhibition at ArcelorMittal Orbit
For families planning a trip to the Olympic Park, now is the time to visit ArcelorMittal Orbit’s viewing platform, as there’s a new London Lego exhibition, Bricks in the Sky 2015, open from 10am-4pm over half-term. The exhibition will include landmarks, such as Big Ben and Battersea Power Station, and London icons like the routemaster bus (see picture above). The professional Lego artist behind the models will also be on hand to talk about the creations and live-build a model of the ArcelorMittal Orbit using 100,000 bricks.
