Finding the best teddy bear for baby

Teddy bearThis time last year we were in Cannes looking at teddy bears for Baby Girl who was in my tummy. Researching soft toys for newborns seemed like the obvious thing to do when I was pregnant. I was set on ensuring Baby Girl would have a good quality teddy bear to be with her for life. Just like Daddy T and I have from our childhoods.

I’ve always been under the impression that my one was given to me on the day I was born, which is why I took the teddy bear hunt extremely seriously. In fact, I spent much more time researching teddy bears than buggies.

It wasn’t until after I’d bought a couple of the same teddy bear from Kinderrom and packed one in the hospital bag that I realised I hadn’t owned my own teddy bear from the day I was born.

It turns out newborns don’t really care about teddy bears. Even seven-month olds aren’t necessarily addicted to teddy bears. And they’re not even supposed to have toys in their beds.

But Baby Girl did. She had her handmade, organic Senger Tierpuppen teddy bear with stitched eyes next to her in her hospital crib for a few seconds on the day she was born – just long enough for me to snap a few photos of the two of them together. At least one person in our family can look back in albums and see that her teddy was always there with her.
