Review: A stress-free first haircut at Trotters Kensington

First Haircut TrottersWhen Baby Boy went to the opening of the new Trotters flagship store on Kensington High Street the other week, there was one area in the store he soon realised it was very worthwhile spending some time in. It was where he started his visit–at the new hairdressing station set up in front of a giant fish tank at the back of the store.

I know many of my mummy friends take their children to Trotters for the hairdressing, and seeing the new fish tank it looked like an ideal opportunity for a 20-month-old Baby Boy to have his first professional hair cut. He was invited to try the haircutting service at the opening, and he willingly sat down on the child-friendly salon chair to look at the tropical fish in the aquarium.

He looked a tad more uncertain about the whole thing when the fish-print cutting gown was attached around his neck and his hair was sprayed with water, but there were no tears. The friendly Trotters hairdresser and staff kept Baby Boy happy pointing to the fishes and giving him colourful board books to flick through while quickly cutting his hair and drying it with a hair dryer.

I also liked that the hairdresser asked me several times about the style and how much to take off. It turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant experience for all involved. Baby Boy was thrilled because he was awarded a sticker and a chocolate coin at the end–the reason he later kept wanting to go back to the hairdressing station–and I was thrilled because he looked smart and we received a cute ‘first haircut’ certificate and a little plastic bag with his first hair.

A stress-free and enjoyable first professional haircut!

It is now possible to book Trotters hairdressing appointments online, and a haircut in a Trotters London store is £14 for under 3s and £16 for over 3s
