2Flying long-haul with baby
Grandpa P was practically shocked when I called with the good news. Fellow passengers said they were amazed. We were showered in compliments. And it was all completely unexpected. It felt good though. Really good.
I was an extremely proud mum when we landed at Gatwick last Tuesday. Baby Girl, who usually cries a lot since she has reflux, had been on the SkyBaby bed we had received to test for nine hours by that time (Read about SkyBaby in this post).
She was asleep when we boarded the plane in Tampa at seven in the evening, and she was also asleep when the first officer announced we were preparing for landing in London.
In fact, she first opened her eyes 20 minutes before landing. We had finished our breakfast smoothies, juices and pastries, and the tables had been cleared. At that point, we were just happy she woke up for a cuddle.
During the flight she made a few noises twice, but I put her straight on the breast for quick dreamfeeds both times and she kept her eyes closed.
I loved flying before Baby Girl was born. I never thought I would enjoy it with a baby in tow though. But I might love it even more. Nine hours with my precious Baby Girl in my lap on a comfy bed and no reason to feel guilty about creating bad habits. What’s not to like.
I hate traveling with kids in general. In fact, if I don’t absolutely have to do it, I won’t. I would rather stay at home. 9 hours of sleep is a very good thing. Congratulations on that! That is totally totally awesome! I wonder if that thing comes in the size for an 8 year old and 4 year old.
Thank you, Lisa! I was expecting to be the mum desperately trying to settle a screaming baby, so I was so pleased when it all went well. The bed was perfect for us, and I hope it will last our daughter for as long as she travels without her own seat. Tine
