Flying with a toddler on an infant ticket

Plastic toy jet planeWhen Daddy T and I were on a plane to Italy a few years back, we were seated next to two ladies travelling with some very active and loud ‘infants’. At that point, we were clueless when it came to guessing children’s ages, but we both agreed those ‘infants’ had to be way too old for infant tickets, and we were annoyed they didn’t have their own seats. I’m sure this is exactly what the man travelling with Baby Girl and me on Thursday was thinking too.

Baby Girl can continue to travel on an infant ticket for the next 11 months, but she already looks quite big to be seated in my lap for a long journey. The main issue is that she doesn’t really want to sit still for too long, and it’s not before now that it’s becoming difficult to avoid bothering fellow passengers when travelling with her.

On Thursday, Baby Girl was fine sitting on my lap for a little while, but the joy of reading the security brochure in the seat pocket did wear off after a couple of minutes. After that we took a few trips up and down the aisle, poking a few other passengers, waving to the stewardesses and touching a sleeping man’s hand. Flying with an ‘infant’ is pure bliss.
