0A Fulham evening out at London’s only winery London Cru
When some of our friends come over for dinner tonight to review a private chef experience with La Belle Asiette they might be surprised by the wine. It’s not from France. It’s from my very favourite place in the world – SW6.
We stocked up on the postcode wine last week when we had been invited to a winery tour and tasting evening at Fulham’s only winery London Cru, and I can’t wait to serve it tonight. It was our second time visiting London Cru, and they continue to surprise me with excellent wine produced right here in London.
The first time we went to the Fulham winery we were there for a private function, and I was glad to hear the winery has now introduced weekly Meet the Cru winery tours, which makes London Cru an ideal place to visit for local wine lovers and those who want to kick off a dinner with friends or a date night with a unique one-hour experience.
It’s located off the beaten track, and when we first came we struggled to see where a winery could possibly be on a dark street in the area in between Fulham Broadway and West Brompton station. But as soon as you find the sign down a little alleyway a light and open room awaits.
The tour we were invited to on Wednesday was led by the knowledgeable Emma, an engaging and confident speaker who clearly knew the business inside out. She talked about the background for London Cru, which is not only London’s one and only winery, but also a winery that produces fine wines listed in numerous Michelin star restaurants.
After the introduction, we had a look around the big room with the state-of-the-art fermentation tanks and the section with French oak barrels. The highlight was of course to taste the wines, and this evening we’ll be serving our two favourites from the tasting – Albemarle Street, a crispy white, and SW6 Syrah, an easy-drinking wine that will go well with the duck breast main.
Visit London Cru to learn about London’s only urban winery and taste what can be made right here in London!
Meet the Cru winery tours run on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm and Saturdays at 1pm or 3pm. Tickets can be purchased online, and the tours give visitors an opportunity to taste a number of the London Cru wines. Wines can also be purchased after the tour, and we had the wine we bought delivered two days later
