2Fun holiday activities for toddlers in Miami
Sea and Sand
I’m not sure we would have needed to do much more than take 18-month old Baby Girl to the beach to ensure she had an amazing holiday in Miami last week. She loved building sand castles with Daddy T and she never seemed to tire of sitting in the sand with her bucket and spade set. The only challenge was to ensure she didn’t see the pool from her spot in the sand. As soon as the pool was in sight, she wanted to be in it, and we ended up using the pool more than on any other holiday I can remember!
Miami Seaquarium
I still think our visit to Miami Seaquarium, a marine park, was a holiday highlight for Baby Girl–and Daddy T and I enjoyed going too! We went for two hours in the afternoon one day, and were able to see three shows–one with dolphins, one with seals and sea lions, and one with dolphins and a killer whale. As soon as the first dolphin started performing, Baby Girl looked mesmerised and said: ‘Wow’. We made sure we sat outside the splash zone on the killer whale show, and avoided the first rows on the other shows. In addition to seeing the shows, we took Baby Girl to the park playground with slides, and we took her to the manatee and dolphin exhibits where she could come face-to-face with these big creatures. Great fun!
The park is located on Biscayne Bay.
Jungle Island
We didn’t visit this animal park on this trip, but I wanted to include it on the blog, as it came highly recommended from a friend with a 2-year old. There are many rare and cute animals to see on Jungle Island, a variety of shows, and a large playground and petting farm, where families can try to feed farmyard animals. We’ll definitely go next time!
The park is located between downtown Miami and South Beach.
On our next trip, I would also consider taking Baby Girl to Haulover Beach Park, which is a popular spot for kite flying. There’s even a kite shop there, and there were always many kites to see every time we passed the park. Fun day out!
How long did it take for your baby girl to get over the jetlag going to the US? Also, did you stay at a child friendly hotel in Miami?
Hi Ellen, Going there was pretty trouble-free in terms of jet lag. I’ll do a separate post on it next week, but I always think the hardest part is coming back to the UK. It generally takes her longer to adapt when we return from holiday, and I’ve heard the same from friends travelling to the US. Baby Girl slept at least 12 hours every night, and didn’t wake up once during the night on any day when we were away. I’m writing about Miami hotels next week too. We stayed at Turnberry Isle this time, which is very family-friendly. I also considered Fontainebleau – now owned by the same company as Turnberry. Tine x
