0Getting kids singing with VTech’s Kidi Super Star karaoke microphone
When we had relatives over the other weekend we started the day with a karaoke session, with a group of us singing children’s songs we remembered from growing up. We were standing in the living room playing the songs on Spotify and taking turns holding a pink and purple microphone. Big Girl and Baby Boy were clapping along, and pressing the buttons on their new karaoke toy. It wasn’t our usual Sunday morning, but it might well be going forward as it was a pretty refreshing way to start the day.
Daddy T and I were not only inspired by the start of the X-Factor season, but also the VTech Kidi Super Star launch event we had attended with celebrity vocal coach CeCe Sammy, known from TV shows like The Voice.
At the event, Big Girl had tried the new Kidi Super Star karaoke microphone and stand, singing songs like Let it Go with CeCe Sammy and a group of excited girls. We received the machine to take home too, and it’s already struck me that the new VTech’s Kidi Super Star (£49.99) would have been a brilliant Christmas present, as it brings the family together and it’s equally entertaining for young and old.
We’ve used it with Spotify so far, plugging an iPhone to the karaoke machine, and searching up songs. The machine then reduces the vocals in the song to allow us to be the stars of the show. There are also several built-in kids songs that Big Girl can access without us plugging in the phone, and she’s also started making up her own songs to sing.
During the show we put on the glowing light ball on the machine that changes colour and when we’ve finished performing we press the applause buttons to make us feel good. It also features different microphone effects, allowing children to transform their voice to a squeaky singing voice, for example, and little stars can also record up to four minutes of a song, allowing them to create individual versions of their favourite tracks.
Kidi Super Star comes with a plastic stand, which can be taken apart to allow for easy storage, and the karaoke machine can be used both with or without the stand.
A fun and creative singing toy that encourages children–not to mention parents–to sing and perform!
