0Getting out the door with baby in tow
As a new mum there are a lot of firsts. First time breastfeeding. First time changing a nappy. First time paying for a black cab journey by cheque.
Getting out of the flat in the morning can be a real challenge, and packing a bag with a crying baby in the background doesn’t make it any easier. As soon as Baby Girl is dressed and ready to go we basically have to run out the door. It doesn’t help to tell her that we’re leaving in a few seconds, and that she will be glad she’s inside her Voksi sleeping bag when she too realises how cold it is outside.
The stress of getting us out without too many tears means I’m not always as well-equipped as planned. Earlier this month, I managed to leave home without my wallet. I had remembered to bring a first aid kit, but no money to pay the cab fare.
I didn’t notice before we were about to jump out of a cab outside the Women’s Wellness Centre, where Baby Girl’s favourite paediatrician Dr Kingi Aminu had kindly agreed to see us that evening.
The good news was that new mums are apparently known for being creative. Without a penny or a card a bit of creativity can definitely come in handy. I figured I could get the cab driver’s address and send him a cheque in the post. How convenient.
