0Getting ready for Mother’s Day with personalised gifts from I Just Love It and Historic Newspapers
The other day I was on the tube reading a newspaper and I could see a few fellow passengers giving me funny looks. They may have struggled to understand why Margaret Thatcher had made the cover and Billie Jean King made the headlines in the sports section in the paper I was reading.
It turns out the tennis ace won a Wimbledon match the day I was born. This was the most interesting paper I’ve read for some time, making me think more about what my parents life must have been like on that day.
I received the authentic newspaper when attending a Mother’s Day brunch with sister companies I Just Love It and Historic Newspapers, which both specialise in personalised gifts, including gifts suited for Mother’s Day.
I think it’s always challenging to come up with little gifts to grown-ups, and when families are looking for something fun to wrap in for Mother’s Day I think the historic newspaper could be a sweet keepsake. I now feel I should have thought about this when having children myself, and bought newspapers or magazines from when they were born.
Historic Newspapers boasts the world’s largest collection of privately owned original newspapers, spanning four centuries, and the Original Birthday Newspaper (£34.99) is only one of a selection of gifts they now offer.
It also turns out silver-plated cutlery is not just for christenings. Families who come over for brunch at ours can now serve their jam with a hand-stamped spoon that says ‘There’s no better mum than Tine’.
The personalised vintage dessert spoon (£21.99) was a gift from I Just Love It, and it could work well as a little Mother’s Day gift, which takes up little space in the kitchen drawer and can put a smile on any mum’s space. The spoon can be hand stamped with any message up to 50 characters long, and there’s a Spread Love butter knife (£14.99) in the same series.
For kids who want to give something even more quirky to their mums, there are glasses that can be personalised with fun messages, such as the engraved mum hi ball glass (£9.99), which comes in three different styles. I received the ‘awesome’ style, and although it’s not something I would have chosen for the myself for the kitchen, it’s been nice to start the day with a glass of juice that says: ‘Mum you are awesome’ on one side, and has my name on the other.
